Who Needs Workplace Safety Training?

Federal and state regulations require specific safety training across industries. Here's what applies to you.

OSHA 29 CFR 1910.151

Employers must ensure the ready availability of medical personnel for advice and consultation on matters of employee health. In the absence of a nearby medical facility, a person with valid first aid certification must be available at all times during working hours. OSHA also requires Bloodborne Pathogens (BBP) training under 29 CFR 1910.1030 for employees with occupational exposure to blood or other potentially infectious materials.

Construction Manufacturing Warehousing General Industry Bloodborne Pathogens

JCAHO & CMS Standards

Healthcare facilities must maintain BLS-certified staff in all patient care areas. The Joint Commission and Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services require current certifications for accreditation and reimbursement eligibility.

Hospitals Clinics Long-Term Care Dental Offices

Illinois DCFS Licensing Standards

Illinois requires all childcare providers and day care center staff to hold current First Aid and CPR certification. At least one certified staff member must be present at all times when children are in care.

Schools Daycare Centers Camps After-School

Illinois Health Club Act

Gyms, fitness centers, and health clubs in Illinois are required to have CPR/AED-certified staff on premises during all operating hours. AED devices must be maintained and accessible.

What Non-Compliance Actually Costs

$15,625

Per Serious Violation

OSHA fines for each serious, other-than-serious, or posting requirement violation. Multiple violations compound rapidly across your operation.

$156,259

Per Willful Violation

Repeat or willful violations carry penalties exceeding $156K each. Knowingly failing to train employees qualifies as willful non-compliance.

Priceless

Human Cost

An employee suffers cardiac arrest. No one on your team knows CPR. Seconds matter. The real cost of non-compliance can't be measured in dollars.

Beyond fines, employers face increased insurance premiums, workers' compensation claims, lawsuits, and loss of accreditation or licensing. Training is the most affordable protection.

Compliance FAQ

Does OSHA require CPR training for all employees?

Not all employees, but OSHA requires that employers ensure "the ready availability of medical personnel" (29 CFR 1910.151). If your workplace is not near a medical facility, at least one employee per shift must hold a valid first aid certification. Construction sites have additional requirements under 29 CFR 1926.50.

How often do certifications need to be renewed?

AHA certifications are valid for 2 years. We recommend scheduling renewal classes 1-2 months before expiration to avoid any compliance gaps. We track this for you automatically.

What's the minimum group size for on-site training?

We offer on-site training for groups as small as 6 people. For smaller teams, we can often combine your employees into our regularly scheduled public classes at our Chicago training center.

Is AHA certification accepted for OSHA compliance?

Yes. The American Heart Association is the most widely recognized certification provider. AHA credentials are accepted by OSHA, JCAHO, CMS, state licensing boards, insurance companies, and virtually all employers nationwide.

Do you provide training records for audits?

Absolutely. We provide detailed training rosters, individual certification records, and compliance documentation suitable for OSHA audits, JCAHO accreditation surveys, and insurance requirements.
